Come dice il capitano Kirk… si inizia!

Tra qualche ora oggi (giovedi 3 giugno 2021) dalle 17.30 scenderemo “in campo” per iniziare questa nuova avventura. Ho sempre trovato affascinante l’idea di riportare su un terreno, a dimensioni medio-grandi una figura geometrica disegnata su un foglio A4… Per un architetto sarà sicuramente banale ma per me, riprendere le lezioni di geometria con compassi e squadre e creare una retta, una parallela, una perpendicolare, un arco di cerchio di dimensioni molto più grandi della mia statura è semplicemente fantastico!!!

20190920 111450 cropA Cascina, in provincia di Pisa, a 30 km da dove abito abbiamo la fortuna di ospitare uno dei 4 rilevatori di onde gravitazionali presenti sulla Terra (gli altri 2 sono negli USA, uno nuovo è in costruzione in Giappone) ed era quindi arrivata l’ora di confrontarmi con questi aspetti fino ad allora a me sconosciuti. Sono andato a visitare Virgo (questo è il nome dell’interferometro) e l’Ing. Valerio Boschi dell’INFN mi ha fatto da guida e descritto i vari aspetti sul funzionamento del rilevatore.
Veramente affascinante.
Fantastico.
Stimolante.

Prima di descrivere Frange d’interferenza parliamo un attimo del Progetto Costellazioni. Questo progetto è nato nel 2013 inizialmente come un progetto di land art dove, in campi incolti e colline ricostruisco le costellazioni del cielo notturno in dimensioni medio-grandi (dai 30 ai 100 metri per 50), visibili spesso da lontano, molto spesso calpestabili, spesso con dispositivi interattivi di dialogo (come i vecchi telefoni), ma sempre con le stelle illuminate di notte.

Non avrei mai immaginato che per organizzare la promozione di un lavoro artistico con partner esterni
mi toccasse fare un Gantt con tanto di WP...

L’anno scorso insieme a Massimo Magrini realizzai questo video che rappresenta per me il prologo di questo progetto di land art. EGO-VIRGO (prologo) è stato selezionato dall’associazione Yatoo nel 2020 per il “Nature art video exhibition” all’interno del 9th Geumgang Nature Art Biennale in Sud Korea. Buona visione.

Per il resto, non vedo l’ora…

 

Last yead I made this video, togheter with Massimo Magrini an represents for me the start, the prologue of this land art project. The video EGO-VIRGO (prologue) has been selected by Yatoo association in 2020 for the “Nature art video exhibition” in the 9th Geumgang Nature Art Biennale in Sud Korea. Have a nice play. For the land artwork, I can’t wait to start!!!

Finalmente, dopo circa 2 anni di gestazione tra riunioni e pit stop a causa del Covid-19 possiamo partire con questo nuovo progetto. Come per tutti quelli che sono stati fermi in questo ultimo anno la ri-partenza è soprattutto una liberazione dalla pesantezza, dal buio e dalla tristezza dei morti, alcuni anche vicini (non solo fisicamente), delle difficoltà economiche e da tantissimo altro. Vedermi di nuovo alle prese con un campo d’erba, con gli occhi ripieni del verde dei campi, delle mucche intorno, del vento, sapere di sudare di nuovo, ripararsi dal sole, bere acqua per idratarsi è per me il riappropriarsi di ciò che mi è più caro. Il link riporta ai dettagli del progetto ma nessuna parola può registrare l’eccitazione dell’idea di costruire una figura geometrica che dalle dimensioni di un foglio di carta passi alle dimensioni di un campo. L’estensione totale credo potrà essere tra i 50-70 metri per 30… o giù di lì.

Finally, after about 2 years of gestation between meetings and stop and goes due by Covid-19 pandemic situation we can start with this new art project! As for all those who have been stopped in this last year the re-departure is above all a liberation from the heaviness, darkness and sadness of the dead, some even close (not only physically), economic difficulties and much more. To see myself again in a field of grass, with my eyes filled with the green of the fields, the cows around, the wind, knowing to sweat again, shelter from the sun, drink water to hydrate is for me the reappropriation of what is dearest to me. In the link attached I describe the project in detail but no words can explain how I’m very excited by the idea to build a geometric figure that, from the size of a sheet of paper passes to the size of a field… The total extension I think can be between 50-70 meters by 30, or so…

E così siamo arrivati alla fine di questa seconda (e ultima) fase di test per la realizzazione, l'anno prossimo, dell'installazione completa.
Credo di aver dissipato tutti i dubbi, e mai avrei pensato di colorare un'installazione con lo spray!
 
Nei prossimi giorni ci sarà l'ultima parte con una bella sorpresa!
 
And so we arrived at the end of this second (and last) phase of testing for the realization, next year, of the complete installation.
I think I have dispelled all doubts, and I never thought I would color an installation with the spray!

#videopremiere In June/July our Instagram page was documenting the progress of FRANGE D'INTERFERENZA, a new land & sound art project from our collaborator @lucaserasini10 (#cooltzine1 2018, #cooltzine4 2021) and electronic musician Massimo Magrini (#badsector), based around the gravitational waves recordings from the Virgo interferometer near Pisa. What are gravitational waves and what does it mean to 'capture' them? "Gravitational waves are produced by very big events, which occur, for example when binary (neutron) stars collapse into one. They start spinning around faster and faster, and the collide. This massive events produce a sort of glitch in space-time, which travels for million and million light years. Gravitational waves cause space itself to stretch in one direction and simultaneously compress in a perpendicular direction. This alteration of space-time can be detected by the interferometers comparing the length of two long perpendicular "arms", made by laser lights. The resulting signal can be easily translated into a sound.
Each event has its special "fingerprint" but, yes, most of them sound (or look) like a very fast sweep" -- Massimo Magrini, 2021.

In questa sezione potete trovare tutto lo stato d'avanzamento di questa prima fase di test dell’installazione di land e sound art FRANGE D'INTERFERENZA.
Sono Luca Serasini e insieme al musicista elettronico Massimo Magrini e ad alcuni valorosi amici abbiamo realizzato alcuni test pratici su come poter realizzare la nostra installazione.
Con Frange d’interferenza l’obiettivo è quello di realizzare un reticolo di diffrazione su un terreno abbastanza grande (circa 60 metri per 100-120) tagliando l’erba all’interno delle fessure in modo che i visitatori possano sentirsi all’interno e parte di un fenomeno (quello dell’arrivo delle onde gravitazionali sulla terra). Massimo invece realizzerà una app sonora in cui i suoni cambieranno a seconda della localizzazione dell’ascoltatore.
Sono molto contento dei risultati di questa prima fase, che è stata principalmente la costruzione geometrica di una frangia (o fessura) media, di 40 per 6 metri e dei lavori artistici associati alcuni ancora in fase di sviluppo che potete vedere alla pagina ARTWORKS.

In this section you can find all the progress of this first test phase of the installation of land and sound art FRANGE D'INTERFERENZA.
I'm Luca Serasini and together with the electronic musician Massimo Magrini and some valiant friends we have carried out some practical tests on how to create our installation.
With FRANGE D'INTERFERENZA. the goal is to make a diffraction grating on a fairly large ground (about 60 meters by 100-120) by cutting the grass inside the slit so that visitors can feel inside and part of a phenomenon (that of the arrival of gravitational waves on earth). Massimo, on the other hand, will create a sound app in which the sounds will change depending on the listener's location.
I am very pleased with the results of this first phase, which was mainly the geometric construction of an average fringe (or slit), of 40 by 6 meters and the associated artistic works some still under development that you can see on the ARTWORKS page.
