Oh Be A Fine Girl, Kiss Me! – Cecina

This light installation aims to pay tribute to the great American researcher and astronomer Annie Jump Cannon, a woman who was undoubtedly determined as well as extremely knowledgeable, who around the year 1900 managed to make her way in an almost entirely male world, as if intelligence and intuition could be tied to gender.
In addition to having discovered many variable stars, she is credited with devising the stellar spectral classification system, still in use today, where stars are identified, to simplify the concept, according to their temperature, using a sequence of letters: OBAFGKM.
Blue-colored stars, of class A and O, appear the same color and are much hotter than the yellow stars of class G, like the Sun, as well as M stars, which are much redder and cooler.
To better remember the sequence, the phrase that is the subject of this installation was created.

Questa installazione luminosa vuole rendere omaggio alla grande ricercatrice e astronoma statunitense Annie Jump Cannon, una donna sicuramente caparbia oltre che estremamente preparata, che negli anni intorno al 1900 è riuscita a farsi strada in un mondo pressoché maschile, come se l’intelligenza e l’intuito possano essere legate al sesso.
Oltre ad aver scoperto molte stelle variabili, a lei si deve l’ideazione del sistema di classificazione spettrale delle stelle, in uso ancora oggi, dove queste sono identificate, per semplificare il concetto,  in base alla loro temperatura, attraverso l’uso di una sequenza di lettere: OBAFGKM.
Le stelle di colore blu, di classe A e O, appaiono dello stesso colore e sono molto più calde sia delle stelle gialle, di classe G come il Sole, sia delle stelle M, a loro volta molto più rosse e più fredde.
Per meglio ricordare la sequenza nacque la frase, oggetto dell’installazione.
