The installations exhibited here in Eliopolis are part of a project, with the same title, that starts from the essence of Jacob’s Dream to encourage visitors to reflect on the concept of hope. Is it possible to hope, nowadays, in 2025, for a world without conflicts like those happening around us? In a world where rulers and their acolytes have, at least, a bit of sense of humanity?
The Bible recounts that Jacob, fleeing from his father’s house, stopped to sleep in the desert. While sleeping, he dreamed of an infinite ladder with angels ascending and descending. To lie down, he used a stone as a pillow, which he set up vertically as a sign of the sacredness of the place. That place, which was previously called Luz (hazelnut tree), took the name Beith-El (the house of God).
The ladder, as a symbol of communication between heaven and earth, becomes, for this project, an invitation to the Angels (bearers of hope and justice) to descend to Earth to bring a little common sense to those who govern the fate of our planet.
