(According to Wikipedia) During 1944, Walter Baade categorized groups of stars within the Milky Way into stellar populations. Population I stars are the younger stars in our galaxy and are stars with highest metallicity out of all three populations, and are more commonly found in the spiral arms of the Milky Way galaxy. The Earth's Sun is an example of a metal-rich star and is considered as an intermediate Population I star.
